I don't have kids so I can't say if these techniques are effective. If nothing else, this book increased my vocabulary to speak compassionately, which I value greatly.When walking through a store, I cringe when I hear parents berating their children and calling them names. I wonder how awful that child must feel when not even their parent is on their side. Who does that leave as their advocate?
I liked that the book covered broad topics, but gave specific enough examples to get the message across without being preachy or exacting. I recommend this book to EVERYONE, because it's not just about correcting children's behavior; it's about talking humanely to anyone.
MacRieve (Immortals After Dark, #13)
Glorious! Macrieve is an oasis in a desert of dried up stories. I enjoyed every minute. Kresley Cole brought it with this one. Hot twins, check; Sexy Scots, check; tortured Lykae, check; healing love, double check. What more could you ask for? Pitch perfect, it hit all my yummy buttons.
Three Little Words (Fool's Gold #12)
I liked the dual love stories and the character intros for the next books were better weaved into the story instead of plopped down into the town like in the last couple books, which I appreciated.I was disappointed that Ford became just a male placeholder character. Oh, but he's a Navy SEAL, he must be stoic. Bah. His personality was almost completely left out and I have no idea why Isabel fell for him now or when she was 14. Not that I didn't like Ford, I did, but he was just there. No opinions, no conflict. We see way more interaction from Ford's brother Kent and his ex-friend Leonard and I liked them more because of it.
Not a bad read. I like it way better than the last one.
A Baby Of Her Own
The story was okay even though it had the possibility to go into "unbelievable" territory. The characters were just complex enough to carry the story and provide enough angst to keep me engaged. The ending and the epilogue did not meet my expectations. Both were too cheesy in my opinion. For a freebie, it was an enjoyable read.I might read the next book just because I liked Rebecca in this one and the setup for her story hinted at lots of obstacles and fireworks.
Again, the setup for the next several books dominate the story. I felt the falling in love aspect of the story was more of an afterthought for the characters.
I like the town and characters of Fools Gold, so I will continue to read the books. The story between the main characters were diminished by too much time spent on setting up the next couple books. Of course, we're all waiting for Ford's book.
I really wanted to like this book more. Actually, I liked the book I think I wanted to like Mr. Willis more, but his narrative felt very self-serving and lacking in gratitude to the people who helped him along the way. His description of his darkest days and the love for his son kept me weeping for chapters. No doubt, his journey was one of enormous pain, sorrow, sacrifice, and determination and I don't diminish his strength of character and willpower to make the incredible amount of life changes he did.
I finished the book feeling very sorry Mr. Willis's first wife. The one who did the soul-draining work of caring for him during his most difficult days. I bet for her Brad Willis truly did die, because the man who came back to her was a different man, Bhava Ram, a man that was not a compatible partner for her. The intervention she initiated out of love to save her husband ended up healing him but destroying her marriage. Bittersweet, really.

Although I learned a lot about equipment I don't have, I think it is important to be knowledgeable about things that could affect your partner and/or child. The trans-gender chapters were enlightening. I quite liked the whole thing.
First of all, the following excerpt should have been put at the beginning of the book because it is so important and not hidden 114 pages in."One important note: This approach [Putting Yourself in the Narcissist's Shoes] is inappropriate with anyone who makes you feel unsafe or abused. That's a completely different protocol, often requiring exit strategies and safety plans. If the narcissist in your life is violent, abusive, or threatens your safety in any way, please seek assistance immediately. As for my review, the first three chapters are full of a lot of important information that at first seemed confusing because it is full of psychological terminology. Chapter four is where everything starts coming together and the practical advice begins. I can see that highlighting and marking parts might be a useful tool for using this book as a reference since this is a continual process instead of a one-time fix.
Blessings to those of you living with a narcissist. Your road is difficult and I wish for you all the loving support you need to make it through.
Truly, Ms. Day is a master at writing angst filled stories. This one almost became too emotionally exhausting for me. I can't complain too much since I was totally entertained throughout. Glad to hear there are more books to come.
I felt the most important part of this book is the in depth look into the inner emotional turmoil that comes with fashion. My struggle began early in puberty when I let clothes dictate how I thought I should be shaped. The fit (or lack there of) of designer clothes mocked my seemingly weird shaped body proclaiming I was unworthy of any fashionable style. This book clearly addresses many self-esteem issues (like mine), and not with just one or two pithy sentences, but with many thought provoking exercises.I learned a lot and enjoyed reading the book cover to cover. I recommend it for anyone who wants to shift their perception about style and is wardrobe challenged, like me.
